The firefly season has a date set and promises to become one of the favorite getaways from the city. Alpinia confirmed that its firefly-watching experience will return from June 19 to July 18, 2026, featuring nighttime walks through the forest, a three-course dinner, and camping options.
Alpinia is a nature and adventure park located in a forest that looks like something out of a fairy tale, on the slopes of the Iztaccihuat volcano.
The experiences will take place on Fridays and Saturdays, although some packages include activities through Sunday morning. The best part is that you can already reserve your spot, as access will be limited to protect the natural environment and ensure a better experience during the wildlife viewing.
This is what the firefly experience at Alpinia will be like
The tour will begin around 7:00 p.m. with a brief informational video and instructions from the guides. Afterward, participants will set out on a hike in complete silence toward the firefly area.
The journey takes approximately 10 minutes, and the stay at the viewing area will last between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on weather conditions and firefly activity.
It’s important to note that no lights of any kind are allowed during the hike, including cell phones, cameras, flashlights, or glow-in-the-dark shoes. Additionally, you may not smoke or stray from the marked trail.
After the tour, visitors will return to the dining hall to enjoy a three-course dinner that includes pasta, meatballs or chicken, salad, dessert, and a glass of wine or beer for adults.
There will also be camping and lodging
Those who want to extend the experience can stay overnight at the campground. It’s important to note that you must bring all the necessary gear to camp comfortably (keep in mind that it might rain).
Camping will only be available on Friday and Saturday nights and will cost an additional $300 pesos per person.
The park recommends bringing a jacket or raincoat, as well as comfortable clothing and footwear for walking on dirt, grass, and mud. Rain does not cancel the sightings; in fact, it often enhances them. Only thunderstorms might alter the activity for safety reasons.
