The countdown to the 2026 World Cup has already begun, and with it come significant changes to mobility in southern Mexico City. Authorities have announced how road closures and access checkpoints will operate around the Mexico City Stadium (formerly Azteca Stadium) on match days.
This information will be useful for those who live, work, or regularly travel through the Santa Úrsula Coapa area, as the restrictions will begin several hours before each match.
These are the streets that will be completely closed during matches
Full closures will begin six hours before each match. In the case of the opening match, restrictions will begin at 5:00 a.m.
The intersections that will remain closed to vehicular traffic are:
- San Gabriel and Santa Úrsula
- San Benjamín and Santa Úrsula
- San Cástulo and Santa Úrsula
- San Celso and Santa Úrsula
- San León and Santa Úrsula
- Santo Tomás and San Alejandro
- Santo Tomás and San Jorge
In addition, during the matches, there will be vehicle checkpoints and lane reductions at various points near the stadium.
There will be partial closures and special access for residents
Partial closures will begin 10 hours before each match. Among the affected areas are:
- San Guillermo and San Alejandro
- San Guillermo and San Jorge
- San Guillermo and Santa Úrsula
- Acoxpa and Las Torres
- Gran Sur and Imán
- Periférico and Circuito Azteca
- Periférico and Coscomate
- Periférico and Renato Leduc
- Periférico and Tlalpan
- Tlalpan and Viaducto Tlalpan
For the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, restrictions will begin on June 10 at 11:00 p.m. Subsequently, on June 11, new partial closures will be implemented starting at 5:00 a. m.
Authorities reported that residents of the area will be able to enter their neighborhoods by presenting official identification or the appropriate pass. Keep this in mind! The main traffic restrictions will be concentrated in Santa Úrsula, Circuito Azteca, Calzada de Tlalpan, Acoxpa, and surrounding roads.
