Make plans for this weekend! Los Pinos will be filled with flavors, music, dance, and plenty of art with the “Afro Cultures in Los Pinos: Flavors and Knowledge” Festival, a free event dedicated to celebrating the richness and diversity of Afro-Mexican communities.
The event will take place on August 15 and 16, 2026 , at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex. On both days , you’ll find family-friendly activities , workshops, literature, crafts, documentaries, visual arts, and a generous helping of food culture from Afro-descendant communities.

What will be featured at Culturas Afro at Los Pinos?
One of the must-see events will be “Afro Cuisine” at Cocinas de Humo, which will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Local products will also be on sale at Plaza Jacarandas and the Tejaban de Cencalli during the same hours.
Art will have its own space. The lobby of Cabin 2 will feature works by graphic artists from Oaxaca and Guerrero, while in Cabin 1 you can visit “Julia López: Brushstrokes of Light and Fantasy,” an exhibition comprising 20 works by the artist. The latter will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In addition, Cabin 2 will host various workshops, so you’ll also find opportunities to learn and engage more actively with the cultural expressions featured at the festival.
Dance, music, and Afro-Mexican culture
The program includes performances such as the Cuajinicuilapa Devil Dance at Plaza Jacarandas, as well as the Yope Dance and the Coastal Wedding Dance.
Also noteworthy is the participation of Obiní Batá, a Cuban women’s group dedicated to the professional performance of batá drums. This will be complemented by documentary screenings and other activities that round out the two-day program.
The festival is presented by the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Culture and the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred), with a program that highlights the knowledge, flavors, and artistic expressions of Afro-descendant communities.
