The remodeling of the AICM will begin in a few months! At a press conference it was announced that this Mexico City airport will be remodeled for the 2026 World Cup. We tell you everything you need to know.
As you know, we are very close to hosting another edition of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico. On the occasion of this sporting event, work will be done not only at the Azteca Stadium, but also at the Mexico City airport.
Although there is still no exact date, the remodeling work is planned to begin between April and June 2025. It is expected to be completed between April and May 2026, just before the World Cup.
A total of approximately 8 billion pesos will be invested in these works. Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales, Secretary of the Navy, explained that the objective is to improve service and safety conditions, as well as the user’s experience at this airport.
Seventy-five works are planned for the airport, covering both terminals and areas such as runways, parking lots, control tower, stairs and elevators, for example.
The works include the expansion of the last lounges, as well as maintenance of the runways and modernization of both terminals 1 and 2.
Will there be closures due to the remodeling of the AICM?
If you have scheduled flights, don’t worry, authorities explained that there will be no impact on the airport’s operation since all works will be carried out in stages.
Let’s remember that in 2026 Mexico City will be one of the venues for the World Cup. Five matches will be played at the Azteca Stadium, including the inauguration of this sporting competition. Here are the dates of the games that will be played in CDMX:
