You read that right and no, it’s not a joke! The mythical Azteca Stadium will be modernized and will now be called Banorte Stadium. We tell you about this decision that will mark history.
The news has been confirmed and shared through a press release on social networks. Banorte and Grupo Ollamani announced the closing of an operation that consists of financing and advertising and sponsorship components, to promote the modernization and transformation of the historic and emblematic stadium for soccer and Mexican culture.
With this, as of today, March 14, 2025, Estadio Azteca will no longer be called as we all know it and will now bear the name Estadio Banorte.
The purpose? For Mexico to have one of the best stadiums in the world, prior to the World Cup, which Grupo Ollamani has hosted on two previous occasions, and is on its way to making history and becoming the first in the world to host for the third time what will be the 2026 World Cup.
What changes will the Banorte Stadium have?
The first thing you should know is that the closing of the operation includes financing for 2.1 billion pesos, all for the modernization of the stadium. Emilio Azcárraga Jean, Chairman of Grupo Ollamani expressed:
“For Ollamani and the new Banorte Stadium it is an honor to join forces with the most important Mexican financial institution in the country. With them we will modernize this emblematic stadium, respecting its essence and architectural designs recognized for decades. It will be the most important venue to showcase Mexico to the world.”
