The Barter Market returns this 2026 as one of the favorite environmental initiatives of the CDMX. We tell you how it works, dates and venues.
The first thing you should know is that this free program allows you to exchange your recyclable waste for fresh food, sustainable products and items made from reused materials, promoting an active and accessible environmental culture for everyone.
This 2026 you will find the Barter Market in different parts of the CDMX once a month, always from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
How does it work?
To participate, you just need to bring your clean, dry and properly separated waste. Accepted materials include cans, glass, PET bottles, cardboard, tetrapack and plastic bags.
On site, your recycling will be weighed and converted into green dots, which you can exchange for bills that work as currency inside the market.
With these bills you can buy fresh seasonal vegetables, grown by local producers committed to sustainable practices.
You will also find legumes, plants, organic products such as soaps and shampoo, as well as items made from recycled plastic, such as pots and utensils that indicate how much packaging was used in their creation.
The experience is not only educational, but also demonstrates how small actions can generate big environmental changes.
