The news is spreading! And it is said that the Government of Mexico City seeks to give visibility to the various cultural spaces that are located in the 16 municipalities through a new CDMX Culture Card that would be announced in 2025.
The information was revealed thanks to an interview between the Secretary of Culture, Ana Francis López Bayghen and El Heraldo de México in which it was detailed that this proposal is still under development.
With this culture card in CDMX it would be possible to go to forums, cafes, book clubs and other cultural spaces to receive discounts or other benefits, strengthening the local economy.
“We are structuring it, but the idea is that it would be in local cultural spaces, which are not registered as such anywhere, but they are. The city is full of such spaces. They need support. They need to empower themselves, and they need to be better known by their community. So, let’s say, that’s how the culture card goes,” commented Ana Francis López Bayguen.
About the former CDMX culture card.
In October 2018, the La Cultura Vale! card was launched in order to bring more people closer to the cultural services that CDMX and the rest of the country have.
This card could be used in more than 400 points throughout the country to enjoy concerts, theater and dance performances, exhibitions, buy books and enter different museums and archaeological zones.
The cultural card was totally free and could be obtained through an online registration or by requesting it directly at any of the Educal bookstores or 400 sites of the National Network of Public Libraries.
At the time, 100,000 cards were issued and distributed throughout the country. However, only 25,742 were activated and no more could be requested. Less than 22% of the total production was used.
Now that the fascination and curiosity for art and museums has been increasing in the city, let’s hope that the new CDMX Culture Card will have a better acceptance and positive impact to promote culture and art.
