After several months without service, many have been wondering: when will Metro Chapultepec be reopened? At a press conference, Mexico City authorities announced the tentative date for the opening. It is only a few weeks away.
Due to the modernization works of Metro Line 1, some stations have been closed since November 2023. Regarding the section from Metro Cuauhtémoc to Chapultepec, it was reported that it is currently in the testing phase regarding signaling equipment. Subsequently, wireless network, automatic driving and operational tests will be carried out; when they are concluded, service will be resumed at the stations:
- Cuauhtémoc
- Insurgentes
- Sevilla
- Chapultepec
This means that, when this happens, you will be able to take the Metro from Chapultepec to Pantitlán station. When these stations reopen, the support service provided by the RTP, which will cover the route from Chapultepec to Observatorio, will be reduced.
For now, and until these stations open, the RTP service continues from Balderas to Observatorio.
When will Metro Chapultepec reopen?
Although an exact date was not disclosed, Clara Brugada, Mexico City’s chief of government, explained that the stretch from Balderas to Chapultepec is expected to reopen by the end of March at the latest.
“I estimate that in March at the latest we will be delivering the Metro to Chapultepec, the stations will open in March at the latest”, she explained in a press conference this Friday, February 7.
The Juanacatlán and Tacubaya stations are expected to reopen in June 2025. In the case of Observatorio station, its reopening will depend on the works being carried out in the area regarding the Interurban Train, so we will have to wait a little longer.
