The axolotl, panda and teporingo coins are back. And the National Numismatic Museum inaugurated the exhibition “The minting of a collection, 100 years of the Chapultepec Zoo”, with a collection of coins that pay tribute to the precinct.
This exhibition presents seven medals that in 2023 commemorated the 100th anniversary of the zoo. The pieces, made of silver and industrial metals, feature animals such as: giant panda, teporingo, Mexican wolf, California condor, salamander from Xochimilco, Caribbean flamingo and American bison. 🦩
In this exhibition you will not only see the coins, but you will also learn about the step-by-step process of their creation. From the ideas, the elaboration of the drawings, the modeling in plasticine, dies and much more. Also, you will discover the sculptural work of the artists who designed each image. 💡
We remind you that the Museo Numismático Nacional is located at 📍República de Bolivia 40, Centro, Cuauhtémoc and you can visit it 🕛 Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. The exhibition of coins from the Chapultepec Zoo is temporary; you can go see it until December 2024.
