This 2025 the restaurant Cocina de Hacienda recreated the chile en nogada recipe that Frida Kahlo herself used to prepare. And her talent was not only reflected on the canvas, but also in her love for cooking.
The season of chiles en nogada began with many options to enjoy them. This is one of the not-to-be-missed ones because in addition to flavor, it is one of the painter’s legacies.
The recipe is based on the book Las Fiestas De Frida Y Diego: Recuerdos Y Recetas, written by Guadalupe Rivera Marín ( Diego Rivera‘s daughter) and Marie-Pierre Colle.

This recipe book contains more than 100 Mexican food preparations, the same ones Frida used to prepare for Diego. Of course, the chile en nogada was a must.
The chile is served with classic ingredients such as pomegranate, almonds, pine nuts, sherry and fresh cheese are just some of them.
How much does Frida Kahlo’s chile en nogada cost?
The dish costs $620 and includes a shot of Don Julio Blanco tequila. Cocina de Hacienda restaurant has another version inspired by the traditional recipe; it is priced at $580 and also includes a shot of tequila.
Both preparations will be available until September 30, 2025, so run out and try them.
