Let’s go shopping for Christmas nativity scenes at Velódromo! Every year artisans from Tlaquepaque travel to Mexico City to sell all kinds of clay figures ideal for your Christmas nativity. They offer everything from traditional pieces (such as the Three Wise Men and shepherds) to fountains, scenery and mariachis. There’s everything!
All the pieces are made of clay by different artisans from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, who begin to elaborate the pieces that they will sell from January of each year.
Faustino Díaz, doctor and artisan, explained that this Christmas nativity market has existed for more than 100 years. Each piece is made from scratch by the artisans themselves, who knead the clay, bake it and paint it, creating all kinds of figures.
What’s in the Velódromo Christmas nativity market?
Here they sell all kinds of figures so you can let your imagination run wild and create your own Christmas nativity. Not only are there the traditional pieces, but there is everything (and we are not exaggerating). They even sell little houses and sands so you can simulate the desert.
You will find countless figures: animals, women washing clothes, bakers, wells, fountains and even mariachis. In fact, they also sell small tents, trees, ladders, bread and food figures, and all kinds of accessories.
No matter the style or size of your Christmas nativity, you are sure to find something to complement it. Prices are very affordable and depend on the size and shape of each piece.
Although the main thing they sell are nativity scenes, this market also sells spheres, lights and other Christmas ornaments.
This handicraft fair is located at the Velódromo Olímpico Agustín Melgar. You can visit it until December 21 from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm.
