If you are used to sharing your Costco membership, the brand has already announced that it will establish new controls to avoid it. 😱
do you remember the cases of the Netflix or Disney+? The wholesale shopping giant now wants to prevent non-members from enjoying the benefits.
According to the official website of the U.S.-based company, new security locks will be implemented to verify the identity of its customers.
This will occur over the next few months, although some stores outside of Mexico began testing in January of this year, according to Forbes magazine.
The new measures will include installing devices that will scan memberships at store entrances.
Additionally, adds the chain if your card is one of those without your photo, you will be asked to prove your identity with an official ID. Of course, you can always avoid this requirement if you go to the counter to ask for your plastic to be renewed.
How will this new process work with Costco membership?
Once all scanners are in place in CDMX, or even from the first stores to debut them, every customer will be required to use them before entering.
The device will read the barcode or QR code on your physical or digital card and display your photo. This will allow the personnel always at the entrances to verify that you are indeed the one who enters.
As is currently the case, you may also be accompanied by guests (maximum two per membership) who would not have access without the presence of someone whose identity is already verified.
If your membership is shown as inactive or expired at the time of processing, you must first go to the front desk to resolve it.
Costco has five branches in CDMX and four more in the Zone. Do you think it will lose subscriptions, as Netflix did?
