The Divo de Juárez will be part of Mexico City’s Day of the Dead celebration! The Great Day of the Dead Parade 2026 will feature a tribute to Juan Gabriel, along with other figures who have left their mark on Mexican music, film, and literature.
The tenth edition will take place on Saturday, October 31, and will feature floats, music, dance, and monumental performances inspired by various traditions from across the country.
One of the new features is that the Mexico City Ministry of Culture issued a call for artists and collectives to submit proposals for floats, with themes related to popular culture, pre-Hispanic roots, and prominent figures from Mexico.
Juan Gabriel and other artists will be honored at the 2026 Day of the Dead Parade
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Juan Gabriel’s passing, which is why the singer is among the figures selected for the celebration’s tributes.
In addition, the city’s official Day of the Dead program includes performances dedicated to the singer of “Amor eterno” and to Emilio “El Indio” Fernández, one of the most renowned figures in Mexican cinema.
The call for proposals also includes tributes to José Alfredo Jiménez, Juan Rulfo, Nellie Campobello, José Revueltas, Lola Beltrán, Blanca Estela Pavón, and Evita Muñoz “Chachita,” among other notable figures.
For now, not all the details regarding the floats that will represent these figures during the parade have been revealed.
What else will the tenth edition of the parade have in store?
In addition to the tributes, the parade will feature floats, community dance troupes, and two giant balloons that will be part of the visual highlights of this tenth edition.
The celebration will also bring together expressions of Mexican popular culture, music, dance, and performances inspired by the traditions of the Day of the Dead.
Among the proposed themes are legends, deities, and the traditions of indigenous peoples related to death.
There will also be music, dance, mojigangas, and floats that will parade along Paseo de la Reforma until they reach the Historic Center.
