Dinosaurs have arrived at the Mexican Mint! A new collection of Mexican dinosaur medals has been launched by the Mexican Mint. We tell you the cost and where you can get yours.
The first thing you should know is that this collection has been launched as part of the 490th anniversary of the Mexican Mint and consists of six pieces inspired by paleontological finds dating from 145 to 66 million years ago.
These medals pay tribute to the country’s extinct biodiversity and six of the 14 species of dinosaurs that have been found within Mexican territory were selected. The species featured in the collection once set foot in states such as Coahuila, Sonora, Baja California and Michoacán. The species present are:
- Labocania anomala
- Latirhinus uitstlani
- Coahuilaceratops magnacuerna
- Tlatolophus galorum
- Huehuecanauhtlus tiquichensis
- Tototlmimus packardensis
The design of this incredible collection has been a joint effort between paleontologists, artists and numismatic experts, who worked to scientifically reconstruct the appearance of these dinosaurs in life.
In addition, on the reverse side you will find the scientific name, the time period in which they are located and the state where the fossils were found.
On the obverse, all the medals will show the political division of what is now the Mexican territory during the Late Cretaceous, the time in which the dinosaurs lived.
