Due to high ozone levels this Thursday, January 8, 2026, an environmental contingency was activated in the Valley of Mexico. Through a press release, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) detailed the measures that will be applied.
The commission explained that at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, an ozone concentration of 160 ppb was registered at the Cuajimalpa station, located in Mexico City.
As a result, phase 1 of the ozone environmental contingency was activated. The population is advised to:
- Do not engage in cultural, civic and recreational activities as well as outdoor exercise between 13:00 and 19:00 hours.
- It is recommended to postpone outdoor events scheduled during these hours.
- Do not smoke, especially if you are indoors.
- Avoid the use of paints, aromatizers and all types of products containing solvents.
Which cars will not circulate on Friday, January 9 due to the contingency?
It was detailed that between 5:00 and 22:00 hours of this January 9, private cars will not be allowed to circulate with:
- Verification hologram 2
- Verification hologram 1, whose last numerical digit is 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 0.
- Verification hologram 0 and 00, blue sticker, license plate number 9 and 0.
- Older cars and units without verification hologram.
This is the second time that an environmental contingency is activated in the Valley of Mexico this 2026; the first time was on January 1.
