The rainy season brings one of the most fascinating natural spectacles of the year: mushrooms are everywhere! And this August, you’ll be able to get to know them much better at Fungosto, a free event in Mexico City featuring mushroom workshops, talks, and demonstrations to help you delve into the world of fungi.
The event will take place on August 15 and 16, 2026, at the National Biodiversity Pavilion, located within Ciudad Universitaria. Over the course of two days, you’ll learn everything from how to distinguish between edible and poisonous species to how to grow your own mushrooms.
What will the Fungosto mushroom workshops feature?
On Saturday, August 15, the program will begin with free workshops from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be activities to help you learn how to tell poisonous mushrooms from edible ones, grow your own mushrooms, and even get fungal tattoos.
You’ll also have the chance to hear from experts. The talks will be held at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00, and topics will include information on the mushroom species found both at Ciudad Universitaria and in other areas of Mexico City.
If you can’t make it on Saturday, you’ll still have a chance to attend on Sunday, August 16. The workshops will be held again from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with activities similar to those of the previous day.
There will be free activities throughout the weekend
On Sunday, there will also be talks from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This time, you’ll learn more about mycelial connections and discover what lies behind something you’ve surely encountered more than once: mold.
The best part is that Fungosto will be free, making it a great option for those looking for unique activities without breaking the bank. Plus, you can take advantage of your visit to explore the National Biodiversity Pavilion, which is typically open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with last admission at 4:00 p.m.
