The rehabilitation works of the Glorieta de Insurgentes have been inaugurated, and you have to know that these were carried out as part of the physical and social rescue of the area, as it had suffered a lot of deterioration and an air of insecurity was felt in the environment.
This required an investment of 14 million pesos, as it was considered essential to rescue this public space that was inaugurated along with the first line of the Metro Collective Transport System.
Since the 20th and 21st centuries, the Glorieta de Insurgentes has been an essential site for the transit of the CDMX, and has been a place of rest, a meeting point and the site of major social movements.
How was the area rehabilitated? Well, a dialogue was established with various social groups that coincided in the space, in order to resolve and find alternatives that would allow the realization of a safe and inclusive space for all.
What is new in the Glorieta de Insurgentes?
Among the most important things are new spaces such as a Human Rights Laboratory that will carry out inclusive, sexual diversity and gender activities.
It opened a Tourist Police Module of the Secretariat of Citizen Security with capacity for 208 elements. Here you can find guidance and support in administrative and immigration procedures, as well as complaints and referrals to agencies of the Government of Mexico and the CDMX.
To guarantee security in the place, there are now different surveillance points inside the Glorieta de Insurgentes, where preventive patrols are carried out in different shifts.
You will also find a semi-massive bicycle parking lot, with capacity for 99 bicycles. In addition, you will no longer find informal commerce, since July 26 the area is free of this type of activities.
About aesthetics? 12 members of the Graffiti Unit, with the participation of young people from the “Reconecta con la Paz” program, SEBIEN staff, PILARES and the Xavier Villaurrutia Cultural Center, carried out 96 days of cleaning, maintenance and repair of walls affected by graffiti.
The status of El Sereno was restored, as well as the walls that confine the façade of the access to the Metro, and activities were carried out on the electrical, sanitary and hydraulic infrastructure. The number of lights inside the Glorieta was also increased.
