This April, you will witness a nostalgic performance that, on the one hand, pays tribute to Japanese composers Toru Takemitsu and Hirokazu Sato and, on the other, celebrates spring. It is a guitar concert to be held at the Franz Mayer Museum: the repertoire includes an iconic piece dedicated to the cherry blossom.
The performance is part of the series “La guitarra hoy,” featuring concert artists from the Bellas Artes: Juan Carlos Laguna, Daniel Olmos, and Arody García. At this time, only one performance is scheduled for April 26, at 2:00 p.m.
As we mentioned, the first part will be dedicated to celebrating spring, so the concert will open with ” Sakura, ” variations on a Japanese folk song, and will include the suite ” Banquet Under Cherry Blossom,” which features pieces such as “Sakura,” “A Night in Spring,” and “Dance of a Cherry Blossom.”
It is worth noting that this suite represents the Japanese tradition of viewing flowers in gardens or parks, especially sakura or cherry trees. Remember that this flower can be seen in various parts of Asia during a fleeting season, making the experience of viewing them a special moment of connection and sharing with others.
After the intermission, pieces by Hebert Vázquez, Sergio Ocampo, Toru Takemitsu, and Hirokazu Sato will be performed.

How much does admission to the Franz Mayer Museum cost?
Admission to the museum costs $130 per person; students, teachers, and seniors over 65 pay $75. Admission for children under 12 is free. You can buy your tickets here—skip the line at the box office!
Although it’s very difficult to see sakura trees in Mexico City, this concert at the Franz Mayer Museum is a great way to discover Japanese musical culture centered around these beautiful flowers. Are you going to miss it?
