Believe it or not, this year 2024 will mark 100 years since Mexico’s first official participation in the Olympic Games. The first time our country sent a delegation of athletes to this sporting event was in Paris 1924.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games kicked off this Friday, July 26. That is why we are going to make a small account of the mexico’s participation in this sporting event.
The first thing to mention is that the first time Mexicans participated in the Olympic Games was in Paris 1900, when brothers Manuel, Eustaquio and Pablo Escandón competed in a polo team with William Hyden Wright.
At that time, Mexico did not have an Olympic committee, so the bronze medal won on that occasion had not been counted. The country’s first official participation was not until 24 years later at the Paris 1924 Olympic Games. 100 years ago!
So far, Mexico has won 73 medals: 13 gold, 24 silver and 36 bronze. In accordance with the official website of the Olympic Games, Joaquín Capilla, with four, and María del Rosario Espinoza, with three, are the Mexican athletes with the most medals.
