Get your wallets out! Due to the 2026 World Cup, hotels in Mexico City have increased their accommodation costs. The few options available during the match dates are priced at over $15,000 per night.
According to a report by the Mexican Association of Tourist Accommodations (AMVITUR), the cost of lodging in Mexico City has increased fourfold, surpassing rates in Canada and the United States, countries that are also hosting the sporting event.
According to Lodging: Mexico’s World Cup Challenge for 2026, published by El Financiero, the Holiday Inn & Suites Mexico Medica Sur hotel has rates of up to $18,749 per night.
AMVITUR CEO Sean Cázares Ahearne said that international experts recommend implementing strategies to allow tourists to make last-minute reservations, thereby covering excess demand. He also mentioned that “tourist housing” can be a good accommodation option.

On the other hand, the article Projections 2026: the new roadmap for the real estate market by Propiedades.com confirms that the strategy to meet hotel demand is to rent vacation homes.
Those who have a property ready to rent could earn income equivalent to a year’s rent during the month of the World Cup alone.
It is also a good idea to adapt co-living models, i.e., renting rooms to different guests who will have to share common areas.
While hotels reach maximum capacity with historic prices, residential alternatives are emerging as a lifeline for fans.
The recommendation for attendees is clear: plan ahead and compare options, because when looking for a place to stay during the World Cup, flexibility will be as valuable as the ticket to the stadium itself.
