
Clara Brugada, head of government of Mexico City, announced the measures that will be implemented to regulate motorcycles in the CDMX. She also detailed what will happen with electric scooters. We tell you everything that is known about it.
During the last few months the use of scooters and electric bikes has become popular in Mexico City. As a result, some measures have been proposed to regulate these vehicles.
At a press conference on March 4, the head of government informed that, in the first instance, vehicles with handlebars whose speed is greater than 25 km/h and which have an electric motor will be established as “electric motorcycles”.
With this established, it was detailed that electric motorcycles will be subject to the same rules that currently apply to combustion motorcycles and cars.
The aim is to regulate motorcycles in CDMX with the following measures
Within the measures sought to be established, it is also contemplated that motobikes will not circulate in confined lanes, nor in bicycle lanes and neither on sidewalks or other confined spaces. In addition, it is foreseen that:
- Use a license plate and registration card.
- Users must wear helmets and have their lights on.
Regarding electric scooters, it was informed that they will continue to be considered as non-motorized vehicles.
