A huge purple structure, shaped like a hand emerging from the building, spills out into the gardens of Arte Abierto. It is Los tiempos del aire, an immersive installation constructed from parachute fabric where the corridors function almost like living organs that expand with the air.
The exhibition is the work of Colombian artist Cristina Umaña Durán. Inside the gallery, located at Artz Pedregal, visitors walk through fabric tunnels that envelop the space and alter their perception of the surroundings.
How long will the installation Los Tiempos del Aire be on view at Artz Pedregal?
The main intention of the installation is to prompt the viewer to pause and breathe consciously. Upon entering the fabric corridors, the journey becomes a forced pause from the immediacy of daily life. In keeping with the exhibition’s concept, time in this space is not measured by a clock, but by each breath and movement of the body itself.
The pieces connect the visitor’s inner world with the outer space, creating a single act of contemplation that seeks to remind us of human fragility. Admission to the exhibition is free, and it is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Opened in May at Periférico Sur 3720, Jardines del Pedregal, the exhibition will be on view through August 30. The experience offers a moment to slow down from the daily grind and observe how the plaza’s architecture interacts with the inflatable structures.
