The Federal Electricity Commission, through its CFE Telecommunications and Internet for All program, offers an affordable connectivity alternative in Mexico: portable internet from $150 pesos per month. We’ll tell you more about CFE Internet with MiFi.
It is a pocket-sized wireless modem that creates its own WiFi network using the 4.5G cellular network (band 28). It is an option designed especially for areas where there is no fixed infrastructure or where traditional services are not easily accessible.
Does CFE have Internet? All about MiFi
MiFi is a portable access point that allows you to connect up to 10 devices at the same time, such as cell phones, laptops, and tablets. It works with a CFE Internet SIM card and offers mobile data only (calls and SMS are not included).
The device costs $1,145 pesos and includes:
- 1 MiFi device
- 1 chip with connectivity
- 5 GB of data valid for 30 days
- Free shipping
Installation is simple: just insert the SIM card, turn on the device, search for the network name (SSID), and enter the password. In addition, the official website offers step-by-step tutorials to facilitate configuration.
Plans and coverage: what you need to know

The service operates on a prepaid basis, with no binding contracts. Available top-ups range from:
Monthly plans:
- 5 GB — $150 pesos
- 10 GB — $270 pesos
- 20 GB — $380 pesos
- 30 GB — $495 pesos
- 50 GB — $610 pesos
- 80 GB — $960 pesos
- 100 GB — $1,180 pesos
There are also extended terms, such as 5 GB every six months for $510 or annually for $1,010.
Data is consumed by volume (GB) and time; if it runs out before the deadline, you need to recharge. The speed is “best effort,” which means it can vary depending on the area and network saturation.
There is no international roaming, so it only works within the country and in areas with available coverage.
In addition to MiFi, the CFE Internet catalog includes mobile phone and data packages starting at $33 pesos, as part of its strategy to reduce the digital divide in the country.
Contracts and top-ups are available through CFE Internet’s official channels, where you can also check coverage and compatibility maps before purchasing the equipment.
