One of Mexico City’s most famous and dazzling shows now has a return date. La Llorona in Xochimilco will kick off its season on May 31, 2026, with an immersive nighttimeexperience on the Cuemanco canals.
This production, which has been running in Xochimilco for over 33 years, blends theater, live music, traditional dance, and trajinera boat tours to tell one of Mexico’s best-known legends. Everything takes place on the water and amidst a natural setting that is transformed by lighting, sound, and special effects.
The story connects the pre-Hispanic myth of Cihuacóatl with the figure of Marina, bringing to life a version of La Llorona marked by tragedy, pain, and historical memory. The show brings together more than 50 actors on stage, as well as live musicians and a monumental pyramid that serves as the central axis of the production.
A nighttime experience on the Cuemanco canals

The production explained that this year’s season will begin much earlier than usual due to the expected influx of tourists ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Traditionally, La Llorona was performed only during October and November.
In addition to the nighttime trajinera tour, the experience includes rituals, dances, and scenes that bring to life moments from indigenous civilizations and the impact of the conquest. The result is a multisensory show that has become one of Xochimilco’s must-see attractions.
