Would you like to get away from the city for a day and see firsthand how the land is worked? Then save the date, because Bosque de Maíces is hosting a special event dedicated to the Wild Greens Season and Cornfield Cultivation in the community of San Mateo Ozolco, in the municipality of Calpan, Puebla.
The event aims to introduce visitors to the agricultural traditions that are part of the identity of the communities living on the slopes of the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. During the event, attendees will be able to learn about working in the cornfield and participate in various activities related to corn cultivation and the harvesting of seasonal foods.
An experience to discover the cornfield from the inside
The tour will begin with breakfast in the village, followed by a hike among the volcanoes. Later, there will be a workshop on yunta farming, a traditional practice still used in some rural communities to work the land.
In addition, participants will be able to join in the harvesting of quelites, edible plants that have been part of Mexican cuisine since pre-Hispanic times. The program also includes a tlachique workshop, a ritual of thanksgiving to Mother Earth, and an exhibition of different varieties of corn.
There will be traditional food and transportation from Cholula

As part of the experience, a taco placero and a seasonal meal made with local ingredients will be served. The tour will depart from the vicinity of the Pyramid of San Pedro Cholula, from where transportation will be provided to the community of San Mateo Ozolco. The return will be to the same location.
