The 2026 Day of the Dead season is just around the corner, and with it comes the spectacular UNAM Megaofrenda, an exhibition that leaves us in awe year after year. This year, the 29th University Day of the Dead Festival will be a tribute brimming with color and creativity.
This year’s festival will be very special because the event is part of the celebration marking the 475th anniversary of the National University. For this reason, the official theme is 475 + “Journeys That Sustain Us.” When you visit the exhibition, you’ll be able to celebrate the people, the knowledge, the disciplines, and the movements that have strengthened the identity of the National University over time.
If you’d like to enjoy the incredible installations created by the university community, the offering exhibition will be open from October 31 to November 2, 2026. Hours for planning your visit will be from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the official opening will take place on October 31. As in previous years, the monumental exhibition will be held on the Universum esplanade in Ciudad Universitaria.

Each altar will occupy a space no larger than 3 meters wide by 3 meters long; installations must use as many recyclable or non-polluting materials as possible. Additionally, for safety and environmental reasons, the offerings must not include Styrofoam, fire, or flammable materials. You’ll also be able to listen to a descriptive audio guide at each installation to gain an in-depth understanding of the concept and the materials used.
