Get ready to post your best meme! If your feed is full of funny content from the internet of things, you have to be part of the meme-themed party hosted by the Franz Mayer Museum during August’s Museum Night.
The museum will transform its cloister into a real-life social media feed this Wednesday , August 26; it will be an evening that blends the world of memes with 15th-century art. The Franz’s “Viral Night” will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m.
Five Years of #MondayMeme as a Cultural Pretext
The event will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the iconic #MondayMeme, a celebration tied to the new temporary exhibition “Dürer: The First Viral Artist, ” which positions the German engraver Albrecht Dürer as the historical precursor of virality: an artist whose images were reproduced and circulated on a massive scale centuries before the internet existed.
Program for the Evening
The program includes two talks on Dürer at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., designed to contextualize his relevance in contemporary visual culture.
The most anticipated moment will be theFranz’s massive Harlem Shake , scheduled for 9:45 p.m. in the museum’s cloister.
In addition, the museum will maintain extended exhibition hours from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with access to the current exhibitions: Dürer: The First Viral Artist, World Press Photo 2026, The Biodesign MX Archive: Living Territories, Soccer : Designing a Passion, Germany: Revolutions in Art and Science, and Ink Crafts: Ali Kazma.
