As it is already a tradition, during the Day of the Dead, the cantoya balloon contest will take place in Milpa Alta 2025. This is an event in which several countries participate by lighting up the sky of this municipality of Mexico City.
As in previous years, during the event you will see balloons up to 12 meters high flying through the sky. Of course, you will also see lanterns, which are made with reeds, Chinese paper and other materials.
It is important to mention that each balloon will have a different design; the main requirement is that it is made with Chinese paper. You will see the creativity of all participants in this colorful event.
Everything you know about the balloon contest in Milpa Alta

Through official accounts, the Milpa Alta mayor’s office informed that the International Balloon and Lantern Contest will be held on Saturday November 1 and Sunday November 2 at the San Agustín Ohtenco Globódromo (Niños Héroes, San Agustín Ohtenco).
It is an event that has been traditionally held on the Day of the Dead for more than 20 years. The full program has not yet been announced; however, it is anticipated that there will be artistic and cultural activities during the two days of the event. You’ll see balloon raising and other not-to-be-missed activities. Just keep in mind that this time of the year is already getting colder, so don’t forget to bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
