Do you want to know more about this tradition? Run over to see the mojigangas exhibit in Mexico City. It will only be there for a limited time, but don’t worry because there is still time to see it.
This exhibition was inaugurated in September and aims to make visible the “role of the mojiganga in the historical, religious, festive and ritual life in the communities of Mexico,” detailed the federal Ministry of Culture through a statement.
This is the exhibition of mojigangas in CDMX
This tradition has existed for more than 150 years in different parts of the country. Surely you have seen them in some celebration throughout the year. They are made in different shapes, from catrines to public figures. During the tour in the museum you will learn not only the importance of this tradition, but also what goes into the creation of each one of the figures.
In the exhibition “Mojigangas. Giants of Tradition” you will see pieces from different states throughout Mexico, such as Oaxaca, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Morelos and Nayarit. You can visit it in the Guillermo Bonfil Batalla hall of the National Museum of Popular Cultures (Hidalgo Avenue 289, Coyoacán).
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday; you can visit it from 11:00 to 18:00 hours. On weekends the hours are extended to 19:00 hours. The entrance fee is $18 per person.
As we mentioned, the exhibition is temporary. It will be available until January 30, 2025.
