The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) has announced an official schedule establishing a new deadline for the registration of phone lines in Mexico.
This measure aims to eliminate anonymity and prevent crimes such as fraud or extortion, ensuring that each number is registered to a specific person.
It’s important to note that postpaid lines do not require any new paperwork, as they have been linked to an account holder since the service was activated. However, prepaid lines that have not yet been registered must be registered according to a schedule based on the last digit of your cell phone number.
Registration Schedule
To complete the registration, check the last digit of your phone number and adhere to the following assigned dates between August and December:
- Ending in 0: August 15.
- Ending in 1: August 31.
- Ending in 2: September 15.
- Ending in 3: September 30.
- Ending in 4: October 15.
- Ending in 5: October 31.
- Ending in 6: November 15.
- Ending in 7: November 30.
- Ending in 8: December 15.
- Ending in 9: December 31.
What happens if I don’t register my line?
Once the deadline has passed, telephone companies will suspend unregistered lines within 72 hours. During this suspension, you will only be able to make calls to emergency numbers, citizen service hotlines, or your carrier, as well as receive earthquake alerts. Once you complete the registration, all your calling, messaging, and data services will be restored.
It is important to remember that this process is handled directly by the telecommunications companies, which will only link your name and your CURP to the number, omitting any other information.
Contact your carrier before the deadline to complete the registration of your phone lines and avoid losing your service.
