Inside the Martínez de la Torre market, in the Guerrero neighborhood, there is a business that pays tribute to the singer. El rincón del inútil is a dessert place that will remind you of Paquita la del Barrio. The whole space is a faithful tribute to the singer with photographs and famous phrases from her songs.
Flavored waters, flan, cakes, corn bread and, the house specialty, flavored jellies . These are some of the delicacies sold by Paquito Torres, owner of the business and former representative of Paquita.
The place has a very particular decoration; the walls show photographs of Paquito with artists he has known throughout his career: Juan Gabriel, Ana Barbara, Vicente Fernandez, Angelica Maria….
Some others are political figures such as Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Ernesto Zedillo and Vicente Fox. Or well-known businessmen such as Carlos Slim. Of course, the great Paquita la del Barrio appears in many photographs.
After her recent death (last February 17, 2025), the market’s merchants have brought flowers to the business as a token of affection. Even, El rincón del inútil has placed a black ribbon to express their grief and mourning. They also set up an altar with a portrait, flowers and a candle.
According to local workers, Paquita la del Barrio used to visit the dessert store and take the opportunity to talk, give advice and empower the women who approached her.
Of course, she would stock up on fruits and vegetables, and then buy plants in the stores along Soto Street. It is important to emphasize that Paquita and Paquito were not partners in this place, although they were great friends, of those who even considered themselves family.
This place was inaugurated by Paquito eight years ago and is operated by him and his family. The team makes the desserts; Paquito’s mom is the one who makes the iconic pan de elote ( grandmother’s secret recipe).
Paquita will always belong to the Guerrero.
Let’s remember that the singer was born in Veracruz, but she lived for a long time in the Guerrero neighborhood and it was there where she started her artistic career. That is why she became a much loved and remembered character in this neighborhood.
Paquita will always live in our hearts, that is a fact. But it’s also comforting to know the spaces she used to frequent, so don’t stay with the desire to visit El rincón del inútil located at 📍 locales 416 y 417 del Martínez de la Torre (Eje 1 Norte s/n, Guerrero).
