To contemplate landscapes that look like they came out of a Velasco painting, you don’t have to leave the city or spend a lot of money. Just join this picnic at Cerro Tecpayotepetl, a free experience where you can enjoy the sunset with a privileged view of Mexico City.
This tour is led by the PILARES program and will take place this Friday, February 27. The meeting point is at Pilares Ixhuatepec (Lomas de San Juan Ixhuatepec, Gustavo A. Madero) at 5:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, you must register; departure is at 5:30 p.m. sharp. Get ready for the walk: to reach the spot with the best view, you will need to climb the hill. The tour is 4.5 kilometers long, so we recommend wearing clothing and footwear with good grip.
And don’t forget everything you need for a picnic! You can bring your favorite snacks and drinks, although the organizers recommend that you bring at least one liter of water and a snack. There are also other items that are important to bring:

🧥 In addition to comfortable clothing, don’t forget a jacket to protect you from the cold. Shorts are not recommended.
🚯 Don’t forget a bag to carry your trash.
🧺 Bring a blanket, bench, or mat to sit on.

What you should know about Cerro de Zacatenco
The viewing will take place from a place steeped in history and mysticism. Also known as Cerro de Zacatenco, this hill is located in the Gustavo A. Madero municipality and is part of the Sierra de Guadalupe. In 2016, the INAH found skeletons dating back more than 2,500 years, which belonged to the Middle Preclassic period; the 145 skeletons were found on the slopes of the mound.
