In the CDMX we love to picnic because it gives us the opportunity to reconnect with nature, enjoy the outdoors and practice our favorite sport: eating. And although we have no shortage of excuses to organize a picnic, here is a list of the perfect parks to make it happen.
1. Bicentennial Park
Located at northwest of the CDMX this park is divided into four distinct areas (Nature, Air, Sun and Earth), each of them with plenty of experiences for a complete natural getaway. The picnic area is in Tierra, from where you can extend your visit to the orchid garden, with more than 1,200 species. You will also find a bounce house, sports fields, an artificial lake and bike paths.

2. La Mexicana Park
It is probably a question of one of the corners the most photographed of the city, thanks to its extensive and well-kept green areas, its monumental fountains and the wall of skyscrapers that it has as scenery. So, it was only to be expected that this park in the Zone of Santa Fe would be one of the best places in the CDMX for a picnic. Just keep in mind that, for your picnic, there are several rules to follow, such as avoiding playing speakers with music, setting up tables, bringing anafres or celebrating with balloons and confetti. Here they are very careful to keep the spaces clean and safe.
📍Lomas de Santa Fe, Contadero
3. Chapultepec Forest
No list of picnic sites would be complete without mentioning the Bosque de Chapultepec, one of the largest public parks in the world. Almost as old as the city itself, Chapultepec has plenty of spaces for picnics, such as the gardens surrounding the Tamayo Museum or the Botanical Garden, where until before the pandemic nighttime picnics were held. Currently, the best alternative in the forest is to go to the meadows in front of the Lake House or choose a space near Lake Maggiore. The meadows of the Second Section, which are less crowded, are also an excellent alternative.
4. El Batán Park
To enjoy this Verde oasis you will have to go to San Jeronimo and pay an access fee of $20 pesos, which allows you to use its green areas to spread your tablecloth on the grass and make your picnic in CDMX a reality; if you want to use its tables and grills, you must make a reservation in advance. Among the curiosities of El Batán is a wooden pavilion inspired by a Japanese pagoda, as well as an area where birds, turtles and capuchin monkeys are sheltered. They also have a children’s play area and their own parking lot.
📍Av. San Jerónimo 477, Progreso Tizapán
5. Loreto and Peña Pobre Ecological Park
With an area of more than 21,000 square meters, this natural sanctuary is one of the most important lungs of the southern part of the capital. In addition to its wooded and grassy areas, Loreto y Peña Pobre stands out for its ecological model home, a completely sustainable construction that uses rainwater and solar energy. It was built to serve as an example of environmentally friendly architecture, and is often part of the ecology workshops organized by the park.
