June is Pride Month and CDMX buildings are lighting up to make the LGBTIQ+ community visible. The Monumento a la Revolución joins in, but with a projection of lights from the dome, the sky will shine with the rainbow colors of Pride!
The installation is made up of seven lasers that reach a projection of up to 60 kilometers. Of course, each laser represents a color of the rainbow.
The artist Yvette Mattern is the author of this installation called The Global Rainbow, which has been placed in different countries since its creation in 2009.
The lights have about 120 watts of power and are launched in horizontal and parallel lines. The idea is to recreate the perception of a natural rainbow. It should be noted that its sighting depends on the weather and atmospheric conditions of the place where it is projected.
This luminous spectacle will be lit from June 26 to 29, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight.
The rainbow that inspired the artist
Puerto Rican artist Yvette Mattern created this work inspired by the most beautiful rainbow she has ever witnessed. It was on January 1, 2007 in Walden Pond, Massachusetts.
In 2009, the installation was first projected onto the 14 Wall Street skyscraper in Manhattan. Since then it has been presented in important buildings and events, such as FILUX.
This year it visits Mexico City to make the city’s sky shine with the lights of Pride, and what better place to do it than the Monument to the Revolution. Are you missing it?
