This is how the increase in the price of public transportation in CDMX will look like.
The first thing you need to know is that this increase was agreed after several work tables. The meeting on Friday, October 31, was attended by the heads of the Secretariat of Mobility, the Secretariat of Government, the Secretariat of Administration and Finance and representatives of concessioned transportation.
It was agreed to increase by $1.50 the “current fares for Route and Corridor transportation”, as detailed in the communiqué. In other words, the minimum fare will now be $7.50. So far, it has not been announced when this increase will become effective; however, it was stated that the provisions will be published in the Mexico City Gazette at a later date.
Within the agreements it was also agreed that concessionaires must display the updated fare. “Otherwise the update will have no effect,” it was explained.
Additionally, the carriers committed to:
- Carry a valid and visible driver’s license
- Remove tinted windows from the units.
- Periodic inspections of units
- Drivers must wear uniforms
- Keep units clean
- Have civil liability insurance
Among other measures. At a later date, it will be announced when this new public transportation fare will become effective.
It is important to mention that the last time the public transportation fare was increased in Mexico City was on June 15, 2022, when it was increased by one peso, leaving the minimum fare at $6 (the current rate).
