The honking of horns, the daily hustle and bustle, and the fast pace of our city can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are havens where we can swap buildings for trees, at least for a moment. This time, we’re introducing you to Astillero 750, a restaurant in Mexico City surrounded by trees where you can spend the weekend or simply enjoy a meal without the stress or chaos.
In the Cuajimalpa district, almost at the foot of the Valle de las Monjas, you’ll be welcomed by an old mansion set in a natural setting where Mexican dishes take center stage. During breakfast or lunch, you’ll find chilaquiles, enchiladas, enfrijoladas, tacos, birria, and even pozole.
The menu also features classic international dishes such as pasta, molletes, and filet mignon, to name a few. For those looking to start their day, they offer a traditional breakfast bar with café de olla, lattes, and cappuccinos; of course, accompanied by sweet bread, French toast, or pancakes. The average check per person is $350.
More than just a restaurant, a century-old gem
As we mentioned, Astillero 750 is much more than a restaurant; it’s a time machine that will take you back at least a hundred years. The property belonged to Ricardo E. Manuell, a 20th-century military doctor who founded a series of laboratories and championed animal vaccination.
This mansion was built when Cuajimalpa was a town that did not belong to Mexico City. Today, it still features a wood-burning stove, a safe over seventy years old, and a staircase that once belonged to the first Bank of Mexico. Meanwhile, its French-style architecture preserves a design that was highly popular during the Porfirian era.
There’s no doubt that Mexico City is made up of countless places with details that shape its history and identity!
Take a moment to dine at this century-old restaurant that few people talk about, but where time stands still. Astillero 750 is located at Prolongación 16 de Septiembre 750, Contadero, Cuajimalpa de Morelos, and you can visit it Monday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
