If you plan to travel around the southern part of Mexico City this weekend, you’d better take precautions. This Saturday, March 28 , an opening match will be held at Azteca Stadium as part of a World Cup rehearsal, which will involve major road closures in the area.
The restrictions will begin at noon and could last until midnight, although there will be varying levels of restrictions throughout the day. Partial closures will begin at 1:00 p.m., while full closures will be in effect between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Closed streets and restricted access
During this operation, several of the busiest roads around the stadium will be completely closed. Here are some of the main ones:
- Acocxpa (from Miramontes to Tlalpan)
- Tlalpan Viaduct and Calzada de Tlalpan (in the surrounding area)
- Periférico Sur (near the stadium)
- Santa Úrsula Avenue
- San Alejandro Avenue and surrounding streets
In addition, access to the area will be strictly controlled. Only people with tickets or credentials, as well as authorized vehicles, will be allowed to enter. This includes area residents (with identification), accredited workers, public transportation, supply services, and emergency vehicles.
If you are not part of these groups, it is best to avoid the area entirely.
Plan your travel in advance
These types of drills are part of the city’s preparations for major events like the World Cup, so we are likely to see similar operations in the future.
To avoid delays, it is recommended to use public transportation, plan your trips in advance, or find alternate routes if you need to travel through the southern part of the city.
