The Franz Mayer Museum’s orchid exhibition is back this spring in Mexico City with a special edition that not only celebrates the season but also the venue’s 40th anniversary.
From May 2 to 10, this iconic venue in the Historic Center will become a small oasis filled with flowers, fragrances, and surprising species.
Organized in partnership with the Mexican Orchid Society, this event brings together the best of an orchid exhibition and sale in Mexico City, featuring national growers and distributors offering specimens that bloom during the spring.
The best part? You can get advice on how to care for them properly (if you’re a beginner) and learn more about responsible cultivation.
The event takes place at the Franz Mayer Museum, in one of the most beautiful courtyards in the Historic Center, which for a few days transforms into a true green landscape full of colors and wonderful shapes.
Expo and species from Oaxaca: the event’s must-see highlights
The stars of this edition? Orchids from Oaxaca, a state renowned for its immense biodiversity. On the museum’s ground floor, you’ll find a selection of species from cloud forests and rainforests, many of which are endemic—meaning they’re unique to that region.
But it’s not just about admiring them: on the upper floor, you’ll find the Franz Mayer orchid exhibition, where you can purchase various species to take home and learn more about caring for them. There will also be workshops, conferences, and talks included with your ticket—perfect if you want to delve into the world of orchidology.
The exhibition also pays tribute to Franz Mayer, who had a great passion for these plants. In fact, some of the orchids you’ll see are part of his original collection, which still thrives in the trees of the museum’s cloister.
