Summer is just around the corner, and several museums of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) have already launched their 2026 summer programs for children. During the summer break, there will be activities combining art, creativity, science, play, and guided tours of exhibitions at some of Mexico City’s most important cultural venues.
Options include workshops on painting, drawing, theater, stop-motion animation, collage, photography, and experiments with light and color, as well as tours of the museum galleries. Each venue offers a different program, so families can choose the one that best suits their children’s interests.
Which INBAL museums will offer summer courses?
The National Art Museum (MUNAL) invites visitors to explore 20th-century Mexico through the exhibition *Mexico: Route and Destination*. Through a variety of works, young participants will discover how the national territory was represented and how the ways of traveling and exploring the country have changed.
The Museum of Modern Art (MAM) will offer a program for children ages 6 to 12 focused on building, playing, and creating through various artistic activities.
At the Carrillo Gil Art Museum (MACG), children will be able to make short films using stop-motion animation, experiment with improvisational theater, design a tote bag, build devices for observing clouds, and explore the exhibitions through playful activities.
The José María Velasco Gallery developed the course “Donde jugamos somos” (Where We Play Is Who We Are), inspired by Tepito and its cultural identity. Activities include art, sonidero music, soccer, tours, and interactions with local artists.
For its part, the San Carlos National Museum will present the course “The Cabinet: Looking, Collecting, and Imagining,” where participants will reflect on the history of objects through workshops in drawing, painting, cardboard art, collage, and printmaking.
Finally, the Tamayo Museum will host “Campo Traviesa: A Manual for Touching a Rainbow,” an experience that blends contemporary art and science to experiment with light, color, photography, shadow theater, and group projects.
Dates, Costs, and Registration
Most courses will take place between July 27 and August 7, 2026, although some museums have different schedules. Costs range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the venue and the program’s duration. Registration is already open or will begin in July, and some venues require advance registration or sign-up via email.
