If you dare to navigate Xochimilco at night, this experience will put your nerves to the test. “Supernatural: Sinister Rites of the Witches of Xochimilco” will return in October 2026 with a theatrical horror experience that blends traditional rowboats, legends, live music, and tales of witchcraft.
The production will celebrate its 14th season with performances from October 23 to November 7 at the Embarcadero Salitre. In addition, this season will conclude with the unveiling of a plaque commemorating 500 performances.

The experience draws on elements of the region’s oral tradition, the folklore of witches from southern Mexico, and references to the era of the Inquisition. Its protagonist is Clementina, a woman accused of witchcraft whose story leads the audience through a tale of revenge in colonial Mexico.
There is one particularly unsettling detail: the production notes that the plot is inspired by events from 1680 documented in records from the National General Archive.

Cihuacóatl and Mictlantecuhtli also feature among the characters in this journey that connects the pre-Hispanic world with later narratives. Added to this are psychophonic recordings, lighting, actors appearing among the audience, and a production that integrates theater, dance, live music, and circus arts.
And the setting does much of the work. The experience takes place in Xochimilco and is linked to a tour of its canals, which makes the lakeside landscape part of the play’s atmosphere.
