Christmas in Mexico City is also celebrated amid snowflakes, mice, soldiers, and music by Tchaikovsky. *The Nutcracker* will return to the National Auditorium from December 18 to 23, featuring the National Dance Company and live music performed by the Teatro de Bellas Artes Orchestra.
This monumental production brings together the dancers of the National Dance Company with the orchestra under the baton of Spanish concertmaster Júlia Cruz. Erick Rodríguez will serve as artistic director.
The choreography is by Nina Novak, based on the original by Lev Ivanov, with choreographic arrangements by the company itself. So you’ll once again be able to meet Clara, Fritz, the Nutcracker, the Mouse King, and the characters from this classic inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale.
“The Nutcracker” will feature live music at the National Auditorium
One of the elements that makes this production special is the live performance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous scores. In addition to the company members, students from the Mexican Dance Academy and the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance will participate.
The young performers will appear as Clara and Fritz, as well as bringing to life soldiers, mice, chocolates, and little angels, among other characters that are part of this Christmas story.
A ballet that has graced this stage for over 20 years

Although the original version of *The Nutcracker* premiered in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, this production has a long history in Mexico City. The ballet was first performed at the Palacio de Bellas Artes on December 2, 1980, and made its debut at the Auditorio Nacional in 2001.
In 2017, the production was revamped to take advantage of the size of the National Auditorium’s stage. Sergio Villegas designed the set; María and Tolita Figueroa designed the costumes; and Laura Rode designed the lighting.
Tickets range from $380 to $1,800, depending on the selected seating section, and can be purchased directly at the box office or online.
