A little before the beginning of spring 2025 we will see a total lunar eclipse in CDMX. During this astronomical event our natural satellite will turn a reddish color, you will be able to see the whole spectacle with the naked eye and take many incredible pictures!
After almost three years we will see again a total lunar eclipse in Mexico. Fortunately it is on the weekend because we will have to stay awake a little bit to see it.
What time will the total lunar eclipse be seen in CDMX?
The first thing you need to know is that the eclipse will happen between the last hours of March 13 and the first hours of Friday, March 14. We bring you all the details so you don’t miss anything.
The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) detailed on its official website that the 2025 lunar eclipse will begin at 23:09 hours on Thursday, March 13; while the maximum point will happen at 0:59 hours on Friday, March 14.
As we were telling you, during this total eclipse the Moon will be red. Why is this? According to information from UNAM Global, during this astronomical phenomenon the Earth’s shadow covers the Moon. It does not leave it in darkness, but our atmosphere absorbs the green and yellow light generated by the Sun and only allows the red light to pass through.
That is why the Moon takes on this color during the eclipse. The best thing is that you can see it with the naked eye. So get your camera ready to take the best pictures.
