Very close to Mexico City there are water parks, enchanted forests, gardens and haciendas ideal to forget about the chaos of the city for a while. The best part is that they are not so far away, so you can go on the weekend. If you are looking for what to visit in the State of Mexico, here are some unmissable options.
Spend the day in Tepotzotlán
This magical town is very close to Mexico City (it takes about an hour and a half to get there). Among its attractions are the Viceroyalty Museum ( Hidalgo 88, San Martín, Tepotzotlán) and the arches of the site, a construction 61 meters high.
Around the arches you will find activities such as horseback riding and zip-lining. You can even camp.
Visit Burrolandia
Among the places to visit in the State of Mexico, we will not only recommend magical towns, but also diverse spaces, such as this park. It is located in the municipality of Otumba and its main mission is to protect donkeys.
You can visit the place and participate in some of its activities such as feeding burritos, tours, workshops and contests. It even has a museum-restaurant.
The site is open from Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The entrance fee is $80 for children under 18 and $100 for adults. People with disabilities, children under 3 years old and burrito godfathers and godmothers get in free.

Discover the Cosmoviltral Botanical Garden
This is one of the must-see places in Toluca. It is a botanical garden starring a huge stained glass window of 3 thousand square meters, which was created by the artist Leopoldo Flores.
In addition to seeing flowers and plants, you will enjoy this enormous work of art.
It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:40 hours. Visit it at Lerdo de Tejada Avenue on the corner of Juárez S/N, Centro neighborhood, Toluca, State of Mexico.
Take a tour around Teotihuacán
It is one of the must-see sites in the State of Mexico. Its name means “place where the gods were made or city of the gods”. You will walk among pyramids and learn more about the pre-Hispanic era. Don’t leave without visiting the museum of this archaeological zone.
You can visit the archaeological site from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00 hours. The entrance fee is $90.
Hacienda Panoaya
This place is open all year round and has several attractions: zip line, boat ride, labyrinth, museums, workshops, tractor ride and even picnic area.

Animal Kingdom
In this park you will meet more than 100 species of animals such as giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, lions, wolves and jaguars, to name a few. You can go on safari or visit the farm and the aviary. It offers many activities.

Villa del Carbon
This magical town is ideal to forget about everything and surround yourself with nature. Walk through its streets full of old houses, visit the handicraft stores and take a walk along the Taxhimay Dam, where you will see the tower of an old church that was buried by the water.
Ixtapan Water Park
Take advantage of the hot weather and take a break to cool off. The site has pools, slides and many other attractions.
Open Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays. Admission is $260 for adults and $150 for children. Visit them from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. They even offer a package that includes round trip transportation from Mexico City.
Emerald Forest
This space is a good option all year round, it has a zip line, climbing wall, boat rides, archery and space for mountain biking. However, we recommend visiting in June, July and August, when fireflies are in season.
It is an incredible place to see them. Just don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes. They are open from 9:00 to 17:00 hours, but they also offer lodging. Fundadores Science Park
This park is one of the places to visit in the State of Mexico. It has an extension of 24 thousand meters and has children’s games, fountains, space for exhibitions and a 360-degree planetarium.
