Can you imagine exploring an ancient castle surrounded by a lake, catrinas, offerings, and marigolds? This Day of the Dead, Catrineras returns to the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla, an experience that will bring together various activities and settings inspired by this beautiful Mexican celebration.
The 2026 edition will take place from October 9 to November 2 at this iconic venue in Puebla. If you’re coming from Mexico City, it can be a getaway lasting several hours to enjoy the Day of the Dead season outside the city.
There will be trajineras and three haunted houses
One of the main attractions of Catrineras will be the lake surrounding the castle at the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla. For this year’s event, organizers plan to have more than 10 trajineras that visitors can board, along with floating figures and special decorations.
If you’re looking for something a little spookier, three haunted houses are also in the works. These will be complemented by a legends tour, themed lighting, and various spaces decorated with elements related to the Day of the Dead.
The event will also feature live music, a food court, children’s activities, and a crafts area, so there will be something for every member of the family.
Ofrendas, catrinas, and calaveritas will take over the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla
The celebration won’t be limited to the stages. During Catrineras, there will also be contests for offerings, catrinas, and calaveritas, some of which will offer prizes.
The scenery will be an important part of the experience: among the announced features are corridors of cempasúchil flowers, monumental offerings, catrinas, and calaveritas. All of this will be set against the backdrop of one of the most recognizable spots at the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla: its castle in the middle of the lake.
If you’re coming from Mexico City, factor in travel time and check access conditions before planning your visit, as ticket prices and schedules for this year’s event have yet to be confirmed.
