September is coming to an end, and the color orange begins to take over Mexico City and Xochimilco throughout October. From October 3 to November 9, the 2026 Cempasúchil Route will take place—an unmissable experience aboard a trajinera featuring fields of flowers, offerings, local cuisine, and activities related to Day of the Dead traditions.
You should know that this experience is organized by Explora Xochimilco and lasts approximately three to four hours. The tour takes place on a decorated trajinera and features a catrín or catrina.
The highlight? It’s the visit to the Chinampa del Cempasúchil, where you can explore a field of these flowers and hear the legend associated with this traditional plant. And be sure to take tons of photos! The visit is scheduled to coincide with sunset.
Offerings, music, and food on the 2026 Cempasúchil Route

The second stop on the tour will be Axolotl Calli, a chinampa where a replica of a traditional mausoleum and an offering will be set up. You can bring a photograph of a deceased family member to place in this space.
Fancy an ancient drink? You’ll harvest your own flowers to make it. You’ll also enjoy a pre-Hispanic ballgame, live pre-Hispanic music, and stories about the legends, chinampas, and history of Xochimilco.
The tour also includes a table with an offering and a tasting of traditional treats: café de olla, pan de muerto, quelite tamales, and a dessert.
