Beans will have their own festival in Mexico City. The Los Pinos Cultural Complex will host the Bean Celebration, a free event dedicated to one of the fundamental ingredients of Mexican cuisine, culture, and identity.
The event will take place on August 29 and 30, with activities from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On both days, you’ll have the chance to experience firsthand the diversity, history, and biocultural value of this staple food through traditional cooking, talks, workshops, local products, and more.
The program will be organized by Cencalli: Casa del Maíz y la Cultura Alimentaria, an organization dedicated to sharing traditional knowledge, research, and participatory experiences centered on ancestral ingredients.
Traditional cuisine, cornfields, and activities for children
Rather than focusing solely on how beans make their way to our tables, the celebration will explore their connection to the milpa and Mexican cuisine. The event is open to the general public and will feature activities for all ages, making it a great option for a family outing over the weekend.
Another highlight will be the presence of traditional cooks, who will prepare dishes featuring this legume. In this way, the event will also serve to recognize the culinary knowledge that is part of different communities and regions across the country.

During the Bean Festival, you can explore Mercado El Solar, where regional products will be available. The event aims to connect gastronomy with those who produce and preserve ingredients, recipes, and knowledge linked to Mexican food culture.
