The skulls are about to rise from their graves! Starting this weekend, the biggest Day of the Dead events kick off, including this Cartonería Festival, organized by artisans and cardboard artists from Mexico City. Every year, they set up shop at the Alameda Santa María la Ribera, and 2026 will be no exception.
This year’s festival will be dedicated to offerings, so you’ll find a wide variety of products for your altar, available for purchase directly from the artisans. Of course, the pieces made of cardboard and featuring meticulous details stand out.
In addition to the craft exhibition, there will be workshops, music, cultural activities, and local cuisine. Keep in mind that the workshops have a nominal fee; prices range from $50 to $150, and you’ll find options for creating, decorating, or making little skulls.

But that’s not all! As a special surprise for this occasion, there will be two skeletons over 4 meters tall for you to take great photos with.
Dates, times, and location
The festival will take place from October 15 to 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Alameda Santa María la Ribera, in the Cuauhtémoc borough.
Don’t miss this chance to get decorations for your altars straight from the artisans themselves! Remember, to attend the 2026 Day of the Dead Cardboard Festival, all you have to do is gather your family or friends and dive right into the celebration.
