Eating a chocolate dinosaur skull with a small shovel-shaped spoon is the main attraction at this new dinosaur-themed restaurant in Mexico City. It’s called Cretácico, and its concept revolves around prehistory, serving up massive portions of meat and desserts that resemble newly discovered paleontological remains.
At Cretácico, the main menu will take you straight back to prehistory. Among the available options are a rib served with mashed potatoes ($180), as well as a giant turkey leg prepared in adobo, which costs $270.
The restaurant’s main attraction is its desserts, whose designs are displayed on the walls as if they were museum exhibits. Diners can choose from five replicas of dinosaur skulls: Parasaurolophus, Pachycephalosaurus, Carnotaurus, Triceratops, and T-Rex. Each edible fossil costs $145 and is made with a white chocolate shell, detailed with paint to make it look realistic. The inside is filled with blackberry, vanilla, and passion fruit mousse.

The restaurant is located at 74 Avenida de las Américas, in the Moderna neighborhood, a few blocks from the Xola Metro station. Since it’s a recently opened establishment with limited space, wait times for food can be long. Additionally, ventilation is limited, causing smoke from the kitchen to build up quickly inside.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
