Between the months of May and August, these flying insects light up creating a beautiful natural spectacle. One of the best places to live the sighting experience is the Emerald Forest.
You will take a night walk through the trees, as this is the best time to see fireflies. The walk is approximately four kilometers long and is guided by specialists who will tell you some curious facts about these animals.
How much does it cost to see fireflies at Bosque de Hadas Sanctuary?
Access to the sanctuary costs $300. Children from 6 to 11 years old pay $150; children under 6 years old and handicapped people get in free. The package includes a talk about fireflies and a sighting tour. If you wish to use a location for photographers, you will have to pay $500.
Please note that the tours only take place from Thursday to Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The 2025 season ends on August 3, so don’t miss the chance to go!

A good time to go is from July 11 to 13, as the International Firefly Festival will be held in different municipalities of the State of Mexico. In addition to the sighting, there will be cultural and sports activities.
Recommendations and rules that will improve your experience
When entering a natural area, you should follow some recommendations. Let’s start with your clothing: wear non-skid shoes, comfortable clothes, a jacket and raincoat that are not too bulky. Avoid carrying large backpacks.
Phosphorescent and reflective clothing and footwear with lights are not allowed. You also cannot carry umbrellas, use repellent or insecticides. 🚫
It is not allowed to bring pets, food or beverages, or to enter in a state of inebriation. Smoking is not allowed. The use of cell phones and lamps is prohibited so as not to impair the sighting.
