If you thought you had to travel to Tlaxcala or the State of Mexico to see fireflies, we have good news. The Firefly Trail season has already begun at Los Cedros Organic Farm, a nighttime experience right in Mexico City that lets you enjoy one of summer’s most magical natural spectacles.
Located in the Magdalena Contreras borough, this garden opens its doors during July and August for sunset tours among fruit trees, wooded trails, and farmland. As night falls, the landscape transforms and the fireflies that inhabit this natural space begin to appear.

The experience begins with a guided walk through the garden, where you’ll learn about some of its organic produce and the green spaces that are part of this ecological project. Then comes the most anticipated moment: the firefly viewing.
Thanks to the humidity typical of the rainy season, these tiny insects light up different corners of the forest, creating a scene so breathtaking it’s hard to believe it’s right in the city.
But the experience doesn’t end there. At the end of the tour, participants gather around a campfire to enjoy a hot drink, a snack, and marshmallows to roast while sharing an evening surrounded by nature.
Dates, prices, and recommendations
Tours will take place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in July and August, with dates scheduled throughout the season. Since space is limited, we recommend booking in advance.
The organizers recommend bringing a raincoat, rain boots, and warm clothing, as the walks take place in a wooded area where weather conditions can change quickly. They also ask that you avoid using umbrellas to help the group move more easily and reduce risks during the tour.
